What is Clean Energy?
Put simply, clean energy is sustainable energy. Any energy system that would allow us to continue to thrive as a society, increase our standard of living and maintain a healthy global environment while doing so. From our perspective we see two main (and equally important) pathways to achieving this goal of a clean, sustainable energy system.
The first is to reduce our energy waste, and promote energy efficiency. Where newer technology can get us to the same end point with less energy, we need to adopt the more efficient technology. Where we are using energy that we don't need, simply because we aren't aware that we are doing so, we need to find these energy 'sinks' and eliminate them altogether. The second is to produce as much of our energy as possible from clean, and preferably renewable energy sources. The energy provided by the sun, wind, waves and rivers are never ending, at least on the timescale that matter for human civilization. By tapping into these renewable sources, we are not concerned about our energy supplies running out, and we can reduce the amount of harmful pollutants we produce. |
